The Thompson Family

Origins ...
The earliest traces of my Thompson family are in North East Northumberland in Belford although there's a strong suggestion that George may have been from Alnwick.

The name Thompson is usually considered a derivative of Thomson and means, literally, the son of Tom. It is, broadly speaking, Scottish in origin being one of the most common surnames in Central Scotland and is the 4th most common surname in Scotland as a whole.
